Every day, we encounter people who appear to have it all together. Yet beneath the surface are stories of pain, fear, disappointment, anxiety, grief, hurt, and struggles that often go unseen.

Beyond the Surface takes audiences beyond outward appearances and into the hidden realities that shape our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and decisions.

It is a powerful reflection of the silent battles we fight, the masks we wear to survive, and the healing that becomes possible when we find the courage to let others truly see us. Because what people show is often only part of their story.

More than a theatrical production, Beyond the Surface is an opportunity to create lasting change. A portion of the proceeds will benefit GPS (Guidance to Purpose Through Support), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering inner-city youth through mentorship, resources, and opportunities that inspire hope and help them reach their full potential.

Meet The Cast

LIV — LaTavia serves as a clinical professor and program director at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. As a licensed clinical social worker, she is passionate about supporting individuals impacted by substance use and empowering African American adolescents and women to thrive. LaTavia is the incredibly proud mother of two adult sons — her greatest accomplishments and biggest source of inspiration. Offstage, she enjoys being with family and friends, hosting and planning events, church outreach ministry, traveling, and dancing whenever she can! LaTavia is beyond excited to make her acting debut in this production, finally saying “yes” to a long-standing love for theater and performance.

Brooke — Karisma D. is a Philadelphia-based performer, content creator, and entrepreneur making her stage debut in this production. Known for her vibrant personality and ability to connect with audiences, Karisma has a background in live performance, improvisation, and digital storytelling. She is passionate about using the arts as a platform for self-expression, empowerment, and community. When she’s not performing, she runs her own businesses, creates lifestyle and fashion content, and continues to pursue opportunities in acting and entertainment. Karisma is grateful for the cast, crew, and supporters who made this production possible and is excited to share this experience with the audience.

Klye — Tyreese is a Philadelphia native whose life is defined by God, family, service, discipline, and a commitment to academic excellence. While serving a distinguished career in the military, Tyreese transitioned to higher education, earning his degree from Saint Leo University. His journey has been deeply influenced by a strong community of support; he extends his profound gratitude to Director Christian Dillard for her collaborative vision, as well as his family and friends for their unwavering encouragement.

Diamond Murray is an 18-year-old graduate of Bonner & Prendergast Catholic High School and an incoming freshman at Thomas Jefferson University, where she plans to major in Pre-Med Imaging and Radiation Sciences. Known for being outgoing, courageous, and intelligent, Diamond approaches every challenge with determination and confidence. Her Christian faith serves as the foundation of her resilience, guiding her through life’s obstacles and inspiring her to keep pushing forward. She is self-motivated, goal-oriented, and believes in never settling for less than her potential. Restless until she rises, Diamond is committed to growing, achieving, and making a meaningful impact on the world around her.

Philadelphia born and raised comedian/actor Dominique, Dom Dukes Matthews from West Philadelphia known for his Comedy acting and viral all over the Internet globally.

Formally known as Bridgette “BB” Carodine i’m a Philadelphia-area actress, media personality, and storyteller whose greatest role has been learning how to become myself. From dreaming of the spotlight as a child while watching Barney, All That, and classic Nickelodeon shows, to stepping into the spotlight role, my journey is one of resilience, self-discovery, and determination.

Michahya Brown-Dillard, I am a Christian. A 15 year old upcoming sophomore. I am a Philadelphia resident with dreams and aspirations of becoming an Anesthesiologist. I have a background in modeling, a plethora of talents including art, singing, dancing, and acting, and I possess strong qualities such as, critical-thinking skills, creative abilities, and perseverance.

College student, only here because my mom made me.

I am thrilled to be making my stage debut in this production. A lifelong lover of the arts, i have always enjoyed expressing herself through singing and dancing. My faith in the Lord Jesus is a guiding force in my life and inspires much of what i do. I am grateful for this opportunity to share this passion for the arts and hope you enjoy the show.
